The beacon community cafe
Experience of work is a very important part of the learner's time here at Beacon Plus. It offers the opportunity to build interpersonal skills, customer service and confidence; it offers them the opportunity to understand the importance of the community in which they live and help them in their development into professional adults.
We are excited to be able to offer learners a real life experience of running a café and bakery business at the Beacon Plus Café at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in the centre of Folkestone, giving learners valuable industry experience.
On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays our community cafe is open to the public where the learners host coffee mornings and offer breakfast, lunch and cakes which are made on the premises.
On Fridays we bake bread to order which is available for collection from the cafe or delivered to The Beacon School in Folkestone. We are currently baking wholemeal and white loaves and rolls, focaccia loaves and pizza. We have just signed up to Folkestone Eats where customers can order bread to collect from the bakery. Bread can also be ordered direct from the bakery using our QR code.
