Careers Pathway

Work placements are a very important part of the learner's employablility programme at Beacon Plus. It offers the opportunity to build interpersonal skills, customer service and confidence; it offers them the opportunity to understand the importance of the community they live in and helps them in their development into professional adults.

Companies who offer work placements to our learners include, Megger Ltd, Folkestone & Hythe District Council, Locavore Gardens, British Red Cross, Pilgrims Hospice Shops, The Three Hills Sports Centre, Footprints Nursery, The Beacon School and Robowatch.

Our Enterprise programme allows our learners to budget, plan and create products to sell whilst also learning the valuable skills of running a small business.

We have a dedicated cafe which is run by our learners in the centre of Folkestone, giving our learners the opportunity to cook, bake bread and serve customers.  They are also responsible for the business side of the cafe including profit and loss and purchasing stock. The cafe has recently moved to a larger premises where we have just launched the business with a grand opening event.
